APUSH Score Calculator FAQ
What does this calculator actually do?
It takes your Multiple Choice, SAQ, DBQ, and LEQ section scores and runs them through the real AP US History exam structure and weighting to project your composite score out of 130, then converts that into a predicted 1-5 AP score. Every step of that math is shown, not hidden behind a black box.
How accurate is this calculator?
The section structure and point values are fixed by the College Board and do not change year to year, so that part is exact. The one variable is where the College Board draws the 1-5 cutoff lines each year, which is not published until real scores are released in July. This calculator projects that cutoff from past years released curves, so treat the predicted score as a strong, well-informed estimate rather than a guarantee.
Is this the same calculator as Albert.io, Knowt, or Fiveable?
No. Albert.io, Knowt, and Fiveable are separate study platforms with their own tools and their own methodologies. This tool is an independent project, not affiliated with any of them or with the College Board. What sets it apart is that the full scoring methodology is published and explained on the page itself, section by section, rather than left as an unexplained number.
Is this calculator updated for the 2026 exam?
Yes. The exam structure and scoring model are reviewed and updated against the latest official College Board data on an ongoing basis, and this page reflects the 2026 exam cycle, including the May 8, 2026 exam date.
What is a good APUSH score?
A 3 or higher is considered "qualified" by the College Board and is the minimum most colleges require for credit. In 2025, 73.6% of the 518,247 students who took the exam scored a 3 or higher, and about 14.1% scored a 5. See the full score distribution breakdown for the complete picture.
Does a 3 on APUSH count for college credit?
At many colleges, yes — a 3 meets the College Board's recommended baseline. But policy varies a lot by school, and some require a 4. Check the full college credit guide for how to verify your specific school's policy.
